Connection parameters

In October 2004 the Proxy and DHCP server was launched. This server provides an automatic allocation of an IP address as well as of the remaining connection parameters. Please excuse a possible server outage, the server is continuously configured in order to meet the user requirements. For the present only ports 135 and 445 are not allowed because of viruses often spreading through them; neither are allowed P2P networks to operate between the Residence Halls data network and the Internet. In the network connection properties of your computer please select:

  • Obtain an IP address from the DHCP server automatically
  • Obtain a DNS server address automatically

In order to find the window please click on: Desktop Icon: Network places – properties, select: Connection to local network – properties, select: Internet Protocol TCP/IP – properties. For more information on connection and data network in the Halls of Residence please click here.
