Internet in Residence Halls

How to join and what you need to join

A student or employee can connect one personal computer or laptop to the computer network at the UTB in Zlín. Connecting other devices without written permission from the network administrator is strictly prohibited.

A network card

You must have a computer with an Ethernet network card with a minimum speed of 10/100 Mbit with an RJ-45 connector. Newer computers have a 10/100/1000 Mbit network card already built in. The same applies to laptops. For older notebooks that do not have a data connection, you can buy a 10/100Mbit PCMCIA network card or a USB to LAN (or USB to Ethernet) adapter.

Parameters of the connection

You must configure the computer to obtain an IP address from the DHCP server automatically. For Windows series operating systems, this setting is made in the network connection properties in TCP/IP. In the network connection properties of your computer, set:

  • Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server automatically
  • Obtain the DNS server address automatically
